Our latest update to the Accessibility Tool for SharePoint now includes support for multi-languages beyond English. We now support French, German, Spanish and Portuguese (of course). Inclusion in your corporate intranet shouldn't be limited to one language – people across the globe too often struggle silently with website content that is unreadable, images that flicker and layouts that impede comprehension. Moreover, with teams made up of people of all abilities, an inclusive intranet can lead to significant productivity gains!

Accessibility, plus multi-language

The tool itself couldn’t be easier to use. With a click of the accessibility icon, available in the corner of any intranet page, your content can be adjusted by users to meet a variety of their challenges:

  • Mobility – keyboard-only navigation
  • Visual – screen reader, big pointer, text size and spacing, magnifier tool, color contrast
  • Comprehension – reading guide, highlight titles and links
  • PTSD, Dyslexia – stop animations, readable fonts
  • Color Blindness – color adjustments on demand
  • And many other assistive technology features

Web Accessibility tools, similar to ours, are popping up across commercial websites. Companies such as Zara, Lonely Planet, Coca Cola have put these tools in place -- why not your intranet?

Newham College in London is using the Accessibility Tool for SharePoint to empower students of all abilities! Read about how it has impacted remote learning for 3,000 students!

Save user settings across all site collections, computers

In addition to multi-language support, this latest update includes a very important upgrade – the ability for users to save their accessibility settings beyond the browser storage on their computer. As users navigate from site collection to site collection or from one computer to another, they are assured that their accessibility settings are in place creating a seamless transition for them.

If you are a SharePoint Admin, you understand that the Accessibility Tool settings were tied to each browser, locally cached. But in this latest release, the settings are now saved in the SharePoint User Profiles (under user properties). A global admin will need to make a few minor changes to initiate this new feature, but once done users can navigate across your intranet without limitations or disruptions.
